About This Project
After building the original Pixelify in vanilla JS, I rebuilt it from the ground up with React and Vite to explore how a modern component-driven architecture elevates development velocity. State management relies cleanly on React Hooks (useState, useCallback, useRef) to decouple tools, active canvas layers, and history buffers. Added high-demand features that were complex in vanilla JS: a multi-layer stacking system with reordering and opacity controls, robust undo/redo history stacks, and multi-format exporting across PNG, JPEG, and SVG.
Tech Stack
Key Features
- Layer system with reordering and visibility toggles
- Undo/redo history for non-destructive editing
- Brush, eraser, fill, and eyedropper tools
- Export to PNG, JPEG, and SVG formats
The Outcome
A direct architectural comparison between vanilla JavaScript and modern React. Live at pixelart.adibdev.me, delivering a performant layer system, non-destructive history, and an extensible foundation for future tooling.
